7 Tips for your Kid’s Summer Camp

Your little one just couldn’t wait for summer to arrive. After all, he has been dreaming of going to summer camp all year long. He’s even packed his kids camping gear already. And while you’re happy that your kid is in this new stage of his life where he’s about to learn independence and meet friends on his own, there is this part of you that is reluctant to let your precious darling go.

To make sure that summer camp is fun and not scary for both of you, here are some tips you may find useful.

  1. When choosing a camp for your kid, it is a good idea to talk to the camp director and visit the camp first so that you know what you and your kid should expect. Through this you will also get to know whether the camp meets your family’s requirements and if it will be a fun and safe camp for your kid.
  1. Choose a camp that offers activities that your kid will be interested in. For example, if your kid is into swimming and water sports, choose a camp that has activities like these.
  1. It’s also best that you know not just about the activities but also other considerations like food service, length of stay, if the camp is co-ed, distance of the camp from home and many others.
  1. Choose a camp that will teach your kid important lessons about camping. If you see that a camp seems to have everything including televisions and indoor activities, you can bet that your kid and the other kids will spend less time outdoors which is in the first place the original purpose of a camp. What’s the use of his kids camping gear like his Coleman’s MilkyWay™ Kids Tent, if they have hotel-like rooms?
  1. Make sure that your kid is fully equipped with his kids camping gear. It is a smart idea to create a checklist for your kids camping gear and his other personal items as well to ensure that he does not forget to pack anything.
  1. Help your kid pack. But make sure that you pack only what’s necessary like sufficient clothing, camping gear for kids, first aid kit, toiletries (toothbrush, comb, soap, shampoo), rain gear (yes, it sometimes rain in the summer), camera and film for memories, and summer gear like hats and sunglasses. Overloading your kid’s suitcases will not only be a hassle for him but will also hinder him from making the most out of his summer camp.
  1. Make sure you pack all the necessary kids tent for children that will make his summer camping experience fun and comfortable but stay away from those things that will distract him and discourage him from going outdoors like his mp3 player or videogame in watch. Don’t forget to label your kid’s things with his name so that he doesn’t lose any.

With these summer camping tips, your child is bound to have a fun-filled and memorable first summer camping experience that will make him look forward for more.
