Safety Tips for Kid Camping

There’s nothing else we want except to give the best for our kids. As parents, we would magically transform the world into a completely safe place for our kids if only we had the power. Even during camping trips (especially those that we are not around with them, like summer camps) when we know that there are some probable hazards outdoors, we constantly worry about the safety of our kids.

But it’s not right that you’re paranoid all the time. Sure, the world is never a safe place and it’s impossible to turn it into one but there are a few things you can do to make sure that your kid stays safe during a camping trip.

Here are some safety tips for your kid’s camping trip:

First of all, invest in high quality camping gear for kids. There’s nothing to worry about when you know that your kid is equipped with tents for child bed that are safe to use, will keep him safe and will protect him.

Take a kids camping tent for example, if you buy one from a reputable camping gear maker like Coleman, you can be free of worries like: “what if the tent suddenly falls apart?”, “what if it won’t be able to protect my kid from the rain?”

Things like these will not keep you anxious because with a Coleman kids tent that’s sturdy, waterproof and dependable, you know that your precious one is protected and safe. Same goes for all the other kids camping gear like sleeping bags, backpacks, and lights. There’s nothing like trusting a reliable brand to appease you.

And because these childs bed tent are specifically designed for kids you can be assured that your kid won’t have a hard time using them or setting them up.

Another thing to keep in mind is to protect your kid from the harmful rays of sun by including in his pack a sunscreen with sun protection factor of 15 (SPF 15). Teach him to apply it on his skin 15-30 minutes before going out into the sun. It’s also a good idea to make him wear a sunglass and hat to further protect himself from the scorching heat of the sun.

Insects and mosquitoes are something you want to protect your child from. An insect repellent spray is handy to make unwanted creatures stay away from your kid and thus protect him from serious health problems caused by insect and mosquito bites. Just make sure that the insect repellent spray you buy for him is child-friendly and does not exceed the recommended concentration of DEET for kids which is 30%.

If there’s a chance that your kid will be going into the water during the trip, don’t forget to include in his pack some floatation device like a life vest. Your kid may be an excellent swimmer but he can be easily dragged by strong streams of running water so make sure that he knows that he has to wear this when he goes out for a swim and that he doesn’t unless there are adults to keep an eye on him and his friends.

Lastly, it’s very important that you teach your kid safety lessons especially if he’s going camping without you. Teach him first aid methods and the basic do’s and don’ts when camping in the woods. Let him know that you trust him to act like a responsible adult at all times and not to do anything that may cause danger to him or to anybody.
